Yes that works, you do have to upload the tracks over WIFI afterwards in order to see yourself in the replay.
Airplane modes disables GPS, however, if you enable GPS when on airplane mode it should work.
I use the GPRS band while sailing because it doesn’t drain the battery and GPRS signal can reach MUCH further out to sea.
