    I have a Huawai Ascend 330 (bought as a “disposable” phone for playing on boats with) and I don’t get heel/trim data. Everything else works fine.

    I have downloaded a 3rd party clinometer app to check the phone – that works fine, so the phone definitely has sensors and they work.

    Android 4.2.2 if it makes a difference.

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Alan,

     

    To collect correct orientation data gyroscope and magnetometer are required.

    Your phone only has accelerometer. So, heading can’t be collected at all and heel/pitch will be wrong due to boat acceleration (think waves).

    Do you think raceQs app should still collect the data assuming it be “good enough”?

    That would explain it. Spirit level clearly just uses the accelerometers, which would certainly give confusing data in rough conditions and might drift over time.

    Good question: Is it better than nothing? I’ll do some tests and let you know if it is useful or not.
